Remember how some people said that the nation’s focusing on Clinton and Monica Lewinsky made us avoid other issues that were going on at the time? Issues that have had much more far reaching implications, such as Clinton not going after Saddam at the time. It would have been much easier to do it then.
Well, shortly before the first story about Spitzer broke, our wonderful little president vetoed a bill that would have prevented interrogators from using methods that amount to torture. He said that we still needed to use those methods, that they had already gotten us results and had already prevented some additional terrorist attacks. This is not really being discussed much anywhere, and this is an issue that’s affecting the lives of the guys imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay and elsewhere, it’s affecting our foreign relations and standing in the world, etc.
I’m very concerned that this distraction seems to be happening again. This site is about sex, so the discussion of Spitzer is pretty appropriate here. It’s a free country with free speech and all that. It just seems very significant that the way more far-reaching issue of Bush’s veto is getting very little discussion.
