Memo to Right Wing blowhard pundits: when your parody habitually outmans you in every department, admits his persona is an irredeemable narcissist, and looks like Gay Superman on an Aspen vacay while doing it, you’ve probably descended into utter irrelevance.

I’ve often wondered if he EVER goes out of character seeing as how he’s in it in every public appearance I’ve ever seen him in.
Thought I wouldn’t consider the conservative movement “irrelevant” when it continues to successfully shut out Democratic initiatives, has captured the entire Republican party and still controls the most popular news network in America. Not easy to dismiss a constituency that, in 25 or 30 percent of the American population, still seems to have about 55% of the power.
I think he means that the pundits have gone so far over the top that their parodies actually come off as more sensible and “real”. How do you spoof these characters anymore? It’s like trying to lampoon porn– the real deal is just too outre to begin with.
It reminds me of the short documentary on ‘Jesus Camp’, where we are given the impression, at one point, that the main character (some obese evangelical bitch) thinks we are losing the ‘faith war’ as Bill Maher called it. Comparing how muslim kids are learning to handle hand-grenades, automatic weapons and bomb belts – while our kids are just here on Bible Camp. It would be terrible to her if the American kids would not want to “radically lay down their lives” for the sake of Christianity. After all, what would God think?
I don’t experience Colbert as funny, parody doesn’t work for me. But he is a great man, I’m sure.
