The gay guys have baskets
THE GUIDO’S FOR DAMN SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a good country,I am so sad live in my country!
As an Italian I won’t even bother to argue that the tern “guidos” is derogatory since I have no doubt there is more than a little envy in its usage. Aestehtics, perticularly male aesthetics, are overwhelmingly inspired by two cultures, Italy and The USA. The image we have all over the world today of a hot man is predominantely American, through fashion, movies, TV, sports. And Italian-Americans tend to be incredibly hot. They place great emphasis on being well-groomed, sexy, and having a great body. Italian culture even has a name for this, una bella figura. Most cultures only value femaile beauty; Italian culture places equal emphasis on both men and women. I lived in London for three years and was continually amazed at how British guys seemed to have no sense of their appearance or placed little if any importance on it. Basic grooming or dressing well were obviously an alien concept. Yes, I know, except for David Beckham, but even he plays the dandy more than the stud. I am always amsued how even in Hungarian porno the guys all have pseudo Italian-American names like Roberto Giorgio or Julian Vincenzo and try to act or look American. Ask any woman and she will tell you Italian men are hot; ask any gay man and you’ll get the same answer. Even the negative stereotypes of Italians, like the mafia, are seen as sexy and attractive. The Sopranos or the Jersey Shore, just try and imagine another ethnic group in those roles…No one would watch.
hotty hot hot
Luca, you’re missing some context. I’m Italian also. In the U.S., Italians fall under a broad category of “white people” and generally do not claim oppressed minority identities; that hasn’t really been legitimate for at LEAST 60 years.
“Guido” is not some racial slur. In fact, some of the people referenced as guidos probably aren’t even Italian.
Similarly, guidos do not encompass all Italian-Americans. They are a certain kind of chauvinistic, jock boy culture that somewhat based on the Italian identity, moreso based on the Jersey/Staten Island identity. It used to be a derogatory term for poor immigrants, now it’s a badge of pride that self-ethnicized white people use to CLAIM they are ethnically oppressed (when they definitely aren’t).
When compared to their somewhat urban, East-Coast surroundings, “guidos” are disproportionately conservative.
I totally disagree with what you say about Italians being the bomb, though. Meh. Like I said, we’re just another kind of white people. They’re already making spin-off programs that use the same template as Jersey Shore with other ethnicities, one for Persians and another for Asians.
