Patrick Fillion: My Super Hung, Super Sexy Cat Man
by John Calendo
NIGHTCHARM EXCLUSIVE: An article by Patrick Fillion
follows this brief but spectacular introduction

Patrick Fillion’s Camili-Cat This Cat is in Heat! Our story so far. Camili-Cat is a lean, mean sex machine from Outer Space — and an insatiable bottom.

He is lonely, poor thing, for he searches for others of his Felinoid race, and has almost given up hope. So he does what anyone would do. Drowns himself in sex, lots and lots of it, beautifully rendered cartoon-panel after beautifully rendered cartoon-panel of moaning, shuddering double-entry love.

Race, species — it doesn’t matter. Just oceans and oceans of whizzing, fizzing jizz. We did mention Camili-Cat was an insatiable bottom?

And, as those who have been reading Class Comics know, this is one cat who gets very motivated behind that essential hungry-hole fact of life.

Now the tale of the mysterious early days of Camili-Cat is about to be told in The Camili-Cat 20th Anniversary Special, which the Cat Man’s creator, Patrick Fillion says will be a prequel. (more…)

Sailors and Floosies and Pansies, Oh My!
by John Calendo

"Sailors and Floosies" detail

“Those who are easily shocked should be shocked more often”
— Mae West

Passed out sailors, good-time gals and blond men offering smokes to bull-necked marines — it’s the scandal that keeps on giving.

Shore Leave, detail hugBack in the 1930’s, while America was managing to stay out of the brewing wars in Hitler’s Europe, Paul Cadmus did a series of sailor paintings that enraged the Navy and created such a furor in the papers that the resulting publicity made his name in art circles, with his subsequent one-man show attracting a record 7,000 visitors.

Rather than depict the natty, clean-jawed sailor of the recruiting poster, the young Cadmus, a government sponsored WPA artist, painted drunk, sensual gobs on pussy patrol, their skin-tight Navy whites outlining athletic butts and bulges in a way that would have cause eyebrows to raise had not the paintings mirrored the actual fit of those dreamy, creamy uniforms. Calendar Boys of Toon Town
by Nightcharm

Calendar Man 1

April is certainly NOT the cruelest month
, judging from Glen Hanson’s 2006 G-Man calendar, where April showers (above) are about to bring May flowers — and other budding things.

Calendar Man 2The master cartoonist, whose T-shirts, comic strips, and gorgeous G-Men (for Glen’s Men) we have celebrated on these pages before, is one of Nightcharm’s most prolific friends. He offers this calendar to Inner Circle members for free (details below) — how’s that for the Christmas spirit?

As calendars go, this one has got to be the Circuit Boy’s Bible — the sort of hotshot circuit boy who has the time and means to fly all over the world. Every white party, black party, gay ski weekend and Gay Day in Disney World is notated. (more…)

Happy New Year: Cocktail Hour at Casa Susanna
by John Calendo

Susanna in a slip Once upon the time, long ago in … oh we’d say the Jackie Kennedy 60’s, there were a bunch of mad, drunk queens.

Very mad, and very drunk.

They were living, it seems, in upstate New York. Or perhaps just visiting. There in a roomy white summer house, nicknamed Casa Susanna after the den-mother of the group (right, actually a professional drag impersonator), they would put on their bouffant wigs and black lace negligees.

They would sit on ugly sofas amid heavy dark-wood furniture and live out spoofy drag lives, making beautiful memories courtesy of Kodachrome.

Sometimes poloroid snapshots are all we have left of people.

So it is with Susanna and her “gals.”

Matthew Stradling: The Men of Luxuria
by John Calendo

Free Angel

In art school, his naked-man fantasias were dismissed as frivolous — even as he continued to win scholarship after scholarship.

“I took delight in horrifying all the tutors with naked bodies and massive dicks,” says British artist Matthew Stradling. “The images had filtered into my work from porno magazines. The tutors were all serious academics. Their concerns were for the very dry, almost scientific aspects of art, which I really had no time for. I wanted to see SENSUALITY and I wanted to see it BIG! It was my coming out as an artist.” (more…)

Was Robin Hood One of the Boys?
by John Calendo

Frame from "Robin Hoog"

Exactly how merry were those Merry Men? That is the question. We like the answer Italian artist Valeriano Elfodiluce came up with for his homo-hot comic Robin Hoog, available online in both Italian and English.

Robin RimIn the adventures of this cock Robin, we enter a Sherwood Forest that is cum-drenched to its very roots. Panels are jammed with balls-to-butt sexcapades and the guys rarely come up for air, having to advance the plot between “mhhs”, “ahhs” and “omygods.” (Elfodiluce makes a valiant but happily futile effort to actually tell the story of Robin Hood.) Maid Marian is but nowhere to be found and in her place we meet such burlesque punchlines as “Robert of Cocksley,” “Sir Guy Dickmore” and — of course — “Friar Fuck.”

Even Sherwood Forest is here renamed — somewhat perplexingly — as “Shamewood Forest.” (Hey, Valeriano, didn’t you get the memo? We’re modern queers now. We left shame at Stonewall.) It’s a total homo retrofit and the storyline bares not even an idiot cousin’s resemblance to anything Errol Flynn ever attempted in the classic Warner Brothers version of the legend. (Correction, ever attempted onscreen. Flynn was the Colin Farrel of his day, in both Black Irish good looks and bad-boy pluck.) (more…)

When Chains Would Be Too Formal …
by Nightcharm

Glen Hanson - Slaveboy T-Shirt

To quote Jessica Simpson, "With nothing but a t-shirt on, I NEVER FELT SO BEAUTIFUL!"

Glen Hanson - CoverboyChains and the dog days of summer just don’t go together. Yet, you need to make an entrance at that next Hogs Gone Wild sit-down with the Flying Fists of Love Motorcycle Club. What to do, what to do!

Never fear, Nightcharmer. We rang up our favorite Fashion Dictator, Kaye Thompson from Funny Face, and she gave it to us straight:

"Ditch the pants!" came the imperious growl on the other end of our phone line to Hell. "Flash the gash! Be cool and you’ll rule in one of those new T’s from Glen Hanson that everyone is screaming about down here."

What great advice! We know a lot of you horn-dogs went wild when we ran our profile on illustrator Glen Hanson last May. A lot of you kept dreaming about how you could get one of his homo-hot ‘toon guys on your back. Or your front. Or over your face. (more…)

Nasty guys are — and always will be — dynamite queerbait: The fuck-you stances, the big-armed tattoos, the strutting in-your-face dickyness. Capturing the dangerous aura of testosterone that envelopes these men is a tricky business, but Michael Alago, a music producer only recently turned photographer, has done just that in his new self-published monograph rough gods.
